The creation of large strictly specialised agricultural enterprises and associations organising their production on an industrial basis as well as agroindustrial enterprises and scientific-productive associations in Moldova created the necessity to provide information on the latest achievements of agricultural science and production. In this connection the functions of the scientific agrarian libraries have widened. the information work to become an obligatory part of library activity.
The Republican Scientific Agricultural Library of Chisinau Agrarian University is the basic library in Moldova for 23 agricultural libraries, scientific research institutes, colleges and experiment stations. It is also the centre of the international information system in agriculture. Library co-operation offers a number of advantages: it avoids duplicate acquisitions, allows the library stock ( database) to be used more fully, and enlarges the number of information users.
At present the forms of information and methods of obtaining it are becoming more diverse. But all branch libraries have the common task of rendering assistance in training highly qualified specialists with theoretical and practical knowledge able to act as leaders and organisers helping leaseholders, farmers, farm proprietors and technology process executors; and also to provide efficient services for the scientists and specialists in the field of agriculture.
