aref2 The investigation concerns specification of principal zones of emergency crops cultivation (chiefly wheat). Winter rye due to the best frost-resistance and drought- resistance among winter grain crops is the best emergency crop. At years with critically low temperatures during wintering winter rye is superior on 33% to winter wheat under the equal conditions concerning yield, and at droughty years on 26.7%. With combination of these unfavorable factors yields of winter rye is on 60% more than of winter wheat. It is necessary to cultivate emergency grain crops: winter rye, winter triticale, spring triticale, spring wheat to increase stability of a grain farm. The analysis proved that the grain crops on the European territory of Russia may be put in the following descending order on the basis of yield toleration: winter rye, spring barley, winter and spring wheat. The regions of the best cultivation of spring wheat are primarily in the zone of lower yield tolerance. This is a very important reason to expand the area of winter rye cultivation and spring barley, which may be emergency crops in some regions of the European territory of Russia. The coefficient of year to year variations of yield of such crops as winter rye, sugar beet, cabbage do not usually exceed 10-12%, but it is 35-44% for field pea, pumpkin, onion, spring vetch.
