aref2 2 Under conditions of the Vologda region, the application of different fertilizer rates to loamy soddy-podzolic soil has significantly in- creased the yield of green vegetable matter in vetch-oat mixture, as well as the yield of winter rye grain, potato tubers, and barley grain in the crop rotation both with and without application of herbicides. The application rates of fertilizers calculated by the balance method for the planned yield using the balance coefficients of nutrient utilization from fertilizers and soil have increased the removal of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium by both crops and weeds compared to the control. The payment of 1 kg a.i. of fertilizers by the metabolic energy gain has reached 142-152 MJ on the average. At the application of herbicides in the crop rotation, a substantial increase in the recoupment of fertilizers by the total metabolic energy gain of 30 MJ at the minimum rate of fertilizers (43 kg a.i./ha) has been observed.
