Due to steady intensification of commercial pig breeding the animals of all age-sex groups are con stantly pressured by various stress agents which in turn not only compromises the immune status of the animals but also hinders their weight gain and as well worsens the quality of their meat. The animal endocrine system can be regarded as an indicator of adaptation to chronic exposure to stressful external factors. Cortisol promotes better stress resistance in animals, being the major hormone of the glucocorticoid group produced by the adrenal cortex and involved in regulation of carbohydrate metabolism. Besides, chronic cortisol hypersecretion can result in decreased muscular tissue mass, impaired cell resistance to the impact of the negative factors, hyperglycemia, impaired immunity etc. So the cortisol indexes cam be used as long-term stress reactivity markers. Dehydroepiandrosterone is reasonably regarded as a natural antagonist of cortisol due to their oppositely directed effects on the immune system and the brain function, that of the hippocampus in particular. This being said, dehydroepiandrosterone has a protective effect while cortisol has a destructive effect. Dehydroepiandrosterone and its sulfate have a neuroprotective and a stress-protective effect of the CNS defending it from the impact of cortisol hypersecretion The majority of thyroid hormones circulating in the blood are involved in protein transportation. Only a very small part of the circulating hormones are free (unbound) and biologically active, so measuring the free thyroid hormones is of high diagnostic significance. The hormonal state of pigs in a livestock industry setting was studied at different technological cycles. The animals in the weaning cohort hаd higher cortisol indexes (202,21+5,56 nM/l, dehydroepiandros-terone-sulfate (0.3 mkg/ml), triiodothyronine (6.90 +0.4 pM/l) and thyroxine (39.70+1.12 pM/l), which can speak for overexposure to stress. It means that weaning can be regarded as the most critical period of young-stock breeding.
