Blood enzyme activity indexes in pigs in a livestock industry setting were studied. The piglets from the weaning cohort demonstrated higher enzyme activity indexes of aspartate aminotransferase, lac tate-dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase and creatine kinase. Aminotransferase interamination enzymes are among the key enzymes of nitrogen exchange. Aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase perform protein-carbohydrate and fat metabolism as well as catalyze synthesis of the essential amino acids. The animal growth follow-up from the weaning cohort to the feeding cohort demonstrated variations that agreed with the creatine kinase and lactate-dehydrogenase concentrations related to the muscular metabolic processes. A higher growth rate of the animals in the weaning cohort (the first phase of the cycle) was characterized by a higher enzyme activity level, as these enzymes accelerate the metabolic processes in the animals considerably. The pigs in the feeding cohort demonstrated higher alanine aminotransferase and gamma glutamyltransferase values. The AlT and GGT variation rate in the pigs from the feeding cohort is more likely to be related to intensification of the amino acid interamination processes indispensable for normal protein synthesis during the feeding period The results of the studies conducted confirm the necessity to use the blood enzyme activity indexes of pigs to reflect the metabolic processes in different breeding periods. To give an objective evaluation, it is necessary to make full determination of blood enzyme markers and associate their activity rate not only with metabolic process disorders but also with the animal growth rate.
