The Index is a reference tool to the repertoire of domestic and foreign serials of the Central Scientific Agricultural Library, intended for libraries, scientific and technical information agencies as well as for individual users. The index can be used for acquisition of stocks for scientific libraries making bibliographical registers, inquiries of documents through the interlibrary loan service, in the signal information system (SI).

In 2000 the Index was replenished by 749 titles of foreign journals and 272 titles of domestic journals acquired by the Library through subscription and exchange and also 54 titles of domestic newspapers. Furthermore, the Index coves the available in the CSAL, databases on optical CD-ROM-type disks and videofilms. The journals marked with an asterisk will come to the CSAL during the year.

The material arrangement in the Index is classified in accordance with the Subject Classification Code of the State Classification Scheme for Scientific and Technical Information (SCSSTI).

Each heading is supplied with a digital SCSSTI index. Within the heading the journal titles are arranged in the alphabetical order (first, a latin row, then a cyrillic one). Each record contains a storage code, ISSN index, country and language of the publication, abbreviated and full journal title, periodicity and SCSSTI heading. Domestic temporary storage journals (within a year) have no code.

The subsidiary instruments are presented by the "Alphabetical Index of Journals" and "Geographical Index of Journals".
Domestic newspapers titles are given in the alphabetical order.
In accordance with a customer's desire this publication can be presented in paper and machine-readable form.
